Is your little toddler angry all the time? Do they
get angry with you when they don’t get what they want? Are they throwing
temper tantrums or lashing out with aggressive behavior?
Sounds like you have an angry toddler on your hands. Here are a few
things to make sure you don’t do with your angry toddler.
Do Not Stoop to Their Level
Angry toddlers love angry adults. And of course you know, that an angry
adult is always able to teach an angry toddler not to be angry, right?
Of course not. You have to be the adult here. You need to stay calm,
and collected. Your child needs to be taught how to deal with their
emotions properly. You can’t do that if you are unable to deal with
your own emotions properly.
Do Not Stuff Their Emotions Away
You can do a great deal of damage to your child if you cripple their
ability to express their emotions. The solution to an angry toddler is
not to hide the emotions a have. If all you do is help them bottle up
their emotions, you are teaching them nothing and leaving them with
internal turmoil that they have no idea what to do. As the parent, you
need to teach them how to appropriately deal with their emotions. Give
them an outlet for their expression of anger. Teach them vocabulary.
Give them strategies that work.
Never Give up
This child is your responsibility. Ask for help if you don’t know what
to do. But never, I said never, give up on working through the anger in
your toddler’s life. You need to find a way to make this anger
manageable. If you do not help your child when they are young how are
you going to deal with them when they get bigger, stronger, and more
emotionally upset.
