Your toddlers safety, happiness, care and well
being are the most important factors to concider when choosing the
right childcare setting for your toddler .if a family member or
childminder is not an option and you wish to choose a nursery here are
some facts to help you make the right decision.
2. staff that frequently leave and new ones start
is not a good sign. toddlers need continuity of care and the same
keyworker that can look after them.
3. cleanliness what is the nursery changing area
like? look at the way staff change nappies and help with potty training
?is it safe, hygenic,is it clean? do they wash their hands don't go in
the morning go a few times at different times to see how they cope
throughout the day.
4.Accidents! mild bumps happen a lot with toddlers
because they are just finding their feet ,falling with toddling around,
taking first steps etc for confidentiality reasons they may not let you
but have a look at the accident book if a lot of accidents occur it may
suggest they are not supervising the children properly.but serious ones
are a cause for concern.
5. staff interecting with each other is there
bickering amongst themselves.If the staff are happy then its a good
sign that the children will be too.
6. safety! is the room safe! is it cluttered,
untidy for adults to fall on toys, even though toys can be around does
it look dangerous.broken toys ?dirty toys ?Is there carrier bags left
hanging around which can be a hazzard totoddler children?
7. Do the staff take the toddler room out and
about or for walks in the prams,or spend time in the garden? toddlers
too need plenty of fresh air?
8. Is there lots to do for the children or are
they bored?
